Tampa Bay/Hudson, Florida - Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point has announced the recipients of its third quarter volunteer Star Awards. The awards were presented on Friday, October 28 at the volunteer’s general meeting in the Rao Musunuru MD Conference Center. Five Star Honor Volunteers included Michelina (Mickey) Orta, and Carol O’Brien. Bruce Carlson was recognized with the One Star Award.

Michelina (Mickey) Orta began volunteering in June of 2010. She now has accumulated over 1,100 hours of service as a courier. Mickey has a reputation for being extremely friendly with patients, staff, and volunteers alike. “Mickey works extremely well with everyone,” said Manager of Volunteer Services, Donna Owen. “She is a responsible volunteer who comes to help when we are short of volunteers even when she herself does not feel well. We are honored to give her a Five Star Award,” she added.

Carol O’Brien started volunteering at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point almost five years ago and has nearly 7,000 hours of service. She has served as assistant treasurer, courier, courier team leader, and courier dispatcher. “Carol is always courteous with everyone,” said Donna Owen, Manager of Volunteer Services. “She is currently a dispatcher and is prompt to respond to patients’ and employee needs and uses her professionalism with many people. This makes our courier program run smoothly,” she added. It is Carol’s ability to make a positive patient experience which has earned her the Five Star Award.

Bruce Carlson has been a volunteer since September 2014 and has already accumulated over 400 hours working as a courtesy cart driver. “He is always polite with our customers and looks out for their safety,” said Donna Owen, Manager of Volunteer Services. “He is willing to help others and it shows. Many times he will take on extra shifts as well.” Bruce has a reputation for dependability and that reputation earned him the One Star Award.
